Deal All,
I'm pleased to announce the release of version 2.0 of my popular extension ColorfulTabs. Which you can download from the link here.
Some of the prominent changes:
1) tab fading
2) coloring of individual tabs
3) Enhanced looks
4) Reorganized entire code for better functioning and understanding.
Please feel free to post your opinion and findings. I'm now open to feature requests. (This was long pending :)

(Might want to check on a bug that won't allow the custom tabs to be displayed... guy said he had it in the last blog post)
But anyway, I guess the next step is aging tabs... here's what i'd do.
1.Set 3 levels of tabs: The currently selected tab (highest), tabs that have been idle for [insert any amount of time here], and tabs have been idle for [greater than the amount of time for the 2nd level tabs]
2.Set a fade level for tab types 2 and 3 (i'd recommend setting the 4th fade level from 2.0 for the "type 2" tabs, and fade level 7 or 8 for "tab type 3"
3.Make the time which differentiates tab 2 types from tab 3 types adjustabe to the user.
4.Make this whole option of fading optional to the user.
I think this is entirely possible, as i'm sure you've probably heard of the extention "aging tabs" which does something similar to this... however I think that this system would work better.
Thanks for reading
My bad for making 2 comments, but i'm pretty sure that you can't fade in "real time", so the effects of the fading will be evident when you change tabs (like how they are when you set a new fade level without restarting FF)
Last night before I left work I was prompted to update to Colorful Tabs 2.0 and it was very nice. At home all I saw was 1.9, co I downloaded the beta from your site. I like the updated version, though I still wish it have the bold outline around the tab selected like 1.6 did. However the fading looks great, and I like the colors better than the old ones, especially now that tab fading is working again. I did discover as I was playing with different skins it looks different. I found that in Noia eXtreme, the tabs have a blue border similar to what I describe with the bold outline on version 1.6. I tend to use the standard or tangerine theme, though I have found FireHawke to be quite nice recently. I also use Tab Mix Plus on all my machines, and use it to bold the text in the current tab so that helps as well. Thanks for continuing to update ColorfulTabs, it looks quite nice.
I just wanted to say thanks. I've been using the 1.9 version of this extension for awhile, but with 2.0, the extension seems so much better than ever before.
So, thanks and keep up the good work!
Does this work for other Firefox skins?
Arvin, yes it works with every skin I have ever tried it in. It will vary a bit based on the skin and looks better with some than others. I have used it under Firefox on Windows and Linux with no issues. See my above post for examples of how it looks with specific skins.
Is there a way to remove the Colorful Tabs entry in the Tab Context Menu, please? I have no use for it, and even Menu Editor can't take it away. What's worse, whenever I use Menu Editor, the Colorful Tabs entry somehow jumps to the top of my Tab Context Menu. :S I'd appreciate the option to not add it to the menu.
Thanks!
Hi,
Has anybody tried this extension on OSX? Because there's some UI issues on it: The left side of the tabs looks a little 'aged' than the rest - this happens on both selected and unselected tabs.
Just a heads up!
Email me for pix.
Yay! Fading is back! I love this extension!
Clue me in...every time I open a new tab, the older tabs don't show any color unless you point the arrow over the tab, then the color of the tab will appear. What do I need to do to get the colors of the tab always showing?
Thanks!
ColorfulTabs 2.0 has a bug with Noia Theme i think because on the tabs near the "x" button has a silver line!!! Pls in the new version fix it
